Gridded RF ion thrusters
RIT-class thrusters ionise inductively at a few hundred kilohertz to a couple of megahertz. The RF generator is one supply among several, and that is how we deliver it.
- The load. An inductive discharge, no confinement field: a small series inductance and resistance that moves with beam current. We match it and track it.
- What we supply. The RF generator module with a documented power-setpoint and telemetry interface. Your controller closes the beam-current loop. The HV grid supplies stay with you.
- Frequency. RIT-class runs at 0.5 to 2 MHz, below the 13.56 MHz used for helicon. The same platform covers both.

The EU DEEP-PPU project (Airbus Crisa and partners) built a COTS-plus-GaN, RF-generator-integrated PPU for the ArianeGroup RIT-2X and is the closest public analogue to this work. Beller et al. (2022) is an open-access RF generator study for a RIT-10. See also RF PPU vs Hall-thruster PPU.
